Kitchen cleaning : Misc

Fires
If a fire should start in your kitchen, sprinkling on baking soda will put a stop to a small fire. Keeping larger amounts of baking soda will be needed if you have no other means for extinguishing a stove fire.

Thermos
Do you or your husband use a thermos for coffee or tea everyday? The rings around the top can be scrubbed by using a paste of salt and vinegar with a rag. To clean the inside of the thermos well, use a quarter cup of vinegar and fill with hot water to loosen anything stuck inside. If you still have ‘stuff’ inside the thermos that didn’t clean out, use a half a cup of rice with a quarter cup of vinegar and shake vigorously to loosen additional particles.

Porcelain
Cleaning porcelain in your kitchen is so much easier using a little sprinkle of cream of tartar and rubbing with a wet cloth.

Corning ware
Do you use corning ware in your home, but you are ashamed because of the stains on your plates and in your cups? You can get these stains out easily with this tip, Using a large pan, fill with ten cups of water and two cups of vinegar. Boiling this mixture, dip your plates or cups in the boiling water for just about thirty seconds. The stains will wipe away. If you still have any stubborn stains on your corning ware after using the above method, use a paste of baking soda and lemon juice to rub on the stained area to remove any remaining stains.

Faucets
For shiny faucets wipe down with full strength vinegar or ammonia to cut grease, gunk and hard water that form on the spigot. The same can also be achieved with half a lemon dipped in salt and rubbed all round the faucet or other chrome ware. You can also just use plain salt and water for a good clean.

Glasses
To make your glasses shine, wash them in hot soapy water with two cups of vinegar. The vinegar will remove detergents and hard water stains. For stubborn stains fill the glass with vinegar and let it sit overnight.

When your glasses are looking a little cloudy you can use a paste of baking soda and water and scrub the glasses with a toothbrush for a great clean.
